On 4 October 2022, the European Parliament, in plenary session, adopted a resolution (moreover non-binding) proposing the use of the blockchain to fight tax evasion: the unique characteristics of the blockchain could offer a new way to automate the collection of taxes, limit corruption and better identify the ownership of tangible and intangible assets by enabling better taxation of taxpayers. The same document also includes the request to start the development of an adequate form of taxation of cryptocurrencies and cryptoassets, the value of which has now exceeded several trillion in real money.
