The MEPs addressed the EU entities to propose new concrete measures to defend women’s rights and reduce gender inequalities in tall the countries. In a non-legislative resolution passed on December 15th, 2021, MEPs reiterated that equal pay and equal treatment are a necessary or the recognition of equal rights, economic independence and professional fulfillment of women. MEPs are concerned about the persistent pay (14.1%) and pension (29.5%) gap between women and men in the EU, and the often-precarious nature of women’s employment situation. They call on EU member countries to take concrete measures to ensure that women have equal access to the labor market and employment, as well as the same remuneration and rights in the field of work. One of the measures envisaged is to sanction companies that do not comply with labor legislation. Furthermore, MEPs support the Commission’s proposal on binding wage transparency measures, but stress that alone it will not be enough to address deeply entrenched gender inequalities.
