According to the opinion expressed by MEPS, the general idea of the EU Parliament is to provide support for the recovery from the pandemic, increase investment, tackle unemployment and lay the foundations for a more resilient and sustainable Union. On October 20th, 2021, the EU Parliament voted its position on the EU budget for 2022. MEPs canceled most of the cuts made by the European Council first bringing back the draft budget at the level originally proposed by the Commission. Furthermore, MEPs have decided to increase funding for many programs and policies that they believe contribute to the post-pandemic recovery and reflect the Parliament's priorities set out in its guidelines for 2022, with an increase of € 2.7 billion euros compared to the Commission's draft budget. These include the Horizon Europe research program, the Connecting Europe Facility which finances the construction of high-quality trans-European transport, energy and digital networks and sustainable, and the LIFE program for the environment and climate action.
