On October 14, 2021, the European Court of Human Rights, with the sentence in appeals no. 75031/13 (and others) established that in cases of severe pollution, environmental protection is part of the right to respect for private life. In the present case, it was a question of noise pollution caused by traffic and the national authorities had remained inactive, despite the protests of the inhabitants, and had done nothing to prevent a motorway deviation for the construction of a new artery from damaging the well-being, even in the enjoyment of the home, of an individual.
