On July 1st, 2021, the Council on Trade in Service held a meeting concerning the WTO program on e-commerce and specifically on a possible waiver from the existing rules on the subject in order to help Least Developed Countries to implement their businesses with a more favorable market access. The meeting was also concerned with other issues such as other notifications sent by WTO members, services domestic regulation and implementation of services commitments at separate meetings of the Council’s subsidiary bodies. In particular, the Council chair, Ambassador Ángel Villalobos Rodríguez of Mexico, addressed the meeting stating that it was a good way to start a constructive dialogue on the matter and that it would help create the basis for a better improvement of e-commerce for LDCs. The requested waiver would, in other terms, help LDS getting a more favorable treatment, with reference to other members, by governments that allow such treatment.
