From May 31st, 2021, to June 3rd, 2021, the WTO, together with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), organized a seminar with journalists from Africa and Asia, that work for English Media Outlets, and for the first time, because of the pandemic outbreak, the meeting took place online. Specifically, the involved journalists came from Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, the Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Uganda, and Viet Nam. The meeting was opened with a speech by Keith Rockwell, who underlined the key issues facing the WTO and the state of play of ongoing negotiations in sight of the 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12), that is planned for November 30th. Subsequently, there were different speeches that were held by many authoritative figures in their field such as Ambassador Santiago Wills of Colombia, Chair of the fisheries subsidies negotiations, Ambassador Mathias Francke of Chile, Coordinator of the negotiations on investment facilitation for development, Ambassador José Luis Cancela of Uruguay, Coordinator of the Informal Working Group on MSMES, and Ambassador Hung Seng Tan of Singapore, Co-convenor of the Joint Initiative on E-commerce.
