On September 2nd, 2020, the European securities markets regulator, namely the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), issued another report, its second one, on Trends, Risks and Vulnerabilities for what concerns the year 2020; such report has been presented and explained during a webinar held on September 9th, 2020, for the general public. Specifically, the report is concerned with the consequences of the pandemic on financial markets for the period that was interested by some lockdown measures in the first half of the year. Furthermore, the report analyses the risks connected to a potential decoupling of financial market performance and underlying economic activity; these episodes worry the general economy and the markets spread. The market environment is still fragile, and ESMA needs to be prepared with a synergic strategy which comprehends accurate risk assessment. It sees a prolonged period of risk to institutional and retail investors of further market corrections and very high risks across the whole of ESMA’s remit.
