On June 11, 2020, in the judgment in the case C-88/19, the E.U. Court of justice ruled that the strict protection of certain animal species provided for by the "habitat" Directive extends to specimens that leave their natural habitat and find themselves in areas populated by humans, which is why the capture and transport of a wolf found in a village can therefore only be justified if it is the subject of a derogation adopted by the competent national authority.
