In accordance with international provisions, after the Brexit took place on February 1, 2020, the United Kingdom has notified the other WTO member states of its status in the organization, since international relations could in some way change as an effect of the UK leaving the European Union. It is important to acknowledge the preliminary facts. At first, it is understood that UK has been a WTO member since January 1, 1995, as well as a member of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) since 1 January 1948. Until 31 January 2020, it was a member state of the European Union with which the UK agreed a Withdrawal Agreement in accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, which states the necessary provisions for the transition period. During such period the agreement provides continuity in the trading relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union, and with other WTO members, with the United Kingdom remaining part of the European Union’s customs union and single market during that time.
