Articoli Correlati: European Parliament - literary texts - disabled
The 18th January, the European Parliament meeting in Strasbourg approved - with 594 votes in favour, 9 against and 25 abstentions - the Marrakesh Treaty, that aims at facilitating the access to literary works for blind people, people with visual impairments or with other difficulties in reading texts in print. Thanks to the ratification of the Treaty it will be possible to guarantee that the contracting States introduce an exception or a limitation to copyright for the blind or visually impaired, so as to eliminate all possible obstacles or barriers that the latter find themselves having to face in finding works in accessible format. The Treaty had been signed by the European Union in 2014, but had not been ratified due to the Council’s reticence. Subsequently, after a journey that lasted almost four years, it is possible to aim at a definitive ratification.
