31/07/2022 - ESMA updates the risk assessment after the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

On June 9th, 2022, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU securities markets regulator, had to review the risk assessment standards taking under consideration the impacts on financial markets of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the economic consequences. There have indeed been difficulties in the valuations; specifically for what concerns asset repricing, which have increased, with riskier assets falling in value with reference in particular to equities, corporate bonds and emerging market debt. In its reviews, there is also space to talk about cryptocurrencies and the difficulties that can rise with the investments on said instruments. Consequently, ESMA highlighted that cryptocurrencies value has deeply decreased, showing the importance of the recently published ESAs joint warning on crypto assets reminding consumers of the highly volatile and speculative nature of many crypto markets
