Articoli Correlati: Ukraine - refugees - EU cohesion funds

On March 24th, 2022, the European Parliament gave the green light for the redistribution of regional and asylum funding to EU countries hosting people fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. MEPs adopted the Cohesion Action Measures for Refugees in Europe (CARE) through an emergency procedure on 24th, March, 2022, two weeks after the European Commission presented its proposal. This update of the EU cohesion funds rules should allow for a rapid reallocation of funding to help EU countries and their regions provide emergency support to people fleeing the country. Starting 24th, February, 2022, the date that marks the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, EU countries can ask the Union retroactively for the amount invested to use it to help Ukrainian refugees. The EU should be able to finance 100% of the cohesion funds (instead of 85%) spent by EU countries for another year, from mid 2021 to mid 2022. The EU cohesion funds support investments that favor the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the Union, seeking to remedy the inequalities between regions.
