On July 16th, 2021, the EU Parliament hosted the Global State of Human Rights Conference for the first time to discuss the human rights situation with a global perspective. The conference brought together European MEPs and Commissioners, Nobel Peace Laureates, Sakharov Prizes, representatives of international organizations, scholars and stakeholders; the discussion of the conference concerned a variety of topics referring to the global human rights situation, through three main panels. The conference, that was planned by the European Parliament and the Global Campus of Human Rights, was held at the monastery of San Nicolò in Venice and on the premises of the Parliament in Brussels (and remotely). The speeches of the conference were given by the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, the President of the Global Campus of Human Rights Veronica Gomez, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, the Secretary General of Amnesty International Agnès Callamard and Denis Mukwege, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2018 and Sakharov Prize in 2014.
