New updates have been published by the WTO Secretariat on the trade of medical goods after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular, the new review includes the statistics for the trade of medical goods for all 2020 in comparison with the statistics already drafted in 2019 and following up the revised note of December 22nd. Specifically, the new report also comprehends a case study on diagnostic reagents and test kits, that are considered two crucial tools to elaborate a plan to shrink the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Even if the challenge cannot be considered won yet, some results can be seen by the analysis of the data of the report, such as the incredible growth of trade of medical goods of 16.3 per cent in 2020 compared to the 4.7 per cent growth of the same sector in 2019. Furthermore, with specific relation to trade in test kits and diagnostic reagents, it is noted that such trade is greatly grown in March 2020 when COVID-19 became a global pandemic. In December 2020, the monthly year-on-year increase reached 90 per cent for exports and 126 per cent for imports.
