The WTO organized this December 11th, 2020, a new Round Table among WTO countries concerning the discipline and provisions on the WTO accession process, in order to facilitate it for LDCs as well. Specifically, the organized Round Table will be nominated as the ninth China Round Table on WTO Accession, since it coincides with the 19th and 15th WTO accession anniversary of China and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and it is mainly concerned with the discussion with the following title “25 years of WTO accessions in review”. In particular, the Round Table provided an introduction of the discussion with the speeches of WTO Deputy Director-General Alan Wolff, China’s Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen, and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov. Subsequently, the Round Table was split into two panels. The first panel was specifically concerned with the results and reports of 25 years of WTO accessions and discussed the importance of the accession process and WTO membership. The second panel analyzed the possibility of universality for WTO membership. Specifically, the discussion was in focus on the possible improvements of the current discipline to help the most vulnerable countries to seek WTO accession, as well as the role of the WTO’s Guidelines on the Accession of LDCs.
