On 11 June 2020, in the judgment in the case C-786/18, the Court of justice of the European Union, has specified that the Community code relating to medicinal products for human use does not authorize pharmaceutical companies to distribute free of charge samples of medicines to pharmacists only on prescription because Community law allows only the free distribution to pharmacists of samples of non-prescription medicines.
