In the United Kingdom, the transition period will end on 31 December 2020, the date on which it will exit the customs union and the single market and, consequently, the free movement of workers from the European Economic Area will also end. Starting from the beginning of 2021, all citizens of the European Economic Area will have to apply for a residence permit in order to work in the United Kingdom, therefore English companies wishing to hire skilled workers who do not have a residence permit will have to sponsor these subjects, in application of the Tier 2 category of the new points immigration system, having to obtain the sponsor license issued by the Home Office.
