On July 21st, 2022, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s securities markets regulator, and the European Banking Authority (EBA) issued the final Guidelines with reference to the procedures and methodologies for the supervisory review and evaluation process (SREP) for investment firms under the discipline set in the Investment Firms Directive (IFD). The provided guidelines discipline the common process and criteria for the assessment of the main SREP elements, amongst which the business model, governance arrangements and firm-wide controls, risks to capital and capital adequacy and liquidity risk and liquidity adequacy. The criteria for the assessment of risks in the issued Guidelines respect the requisites that are set out in the Investment Firms Regulation and IFD and also all the procedures and methodologies have been analyzed and decided according to the characteristics of the investment firms in relation with their nature, size and kind of activities.
