Articoli Correlati: EU Parliament - STD Directive - safety

In a non-legislative resolution adopted on February 16th, 2022, MEPs called on the Commission and the EU countries to step up measures to ensure that all toys for kids placed on the EU market comply with the STD directive, regardless of the location. Specifically, the EP wants to strengthen rules and supervision on the matter in order to ensure that toys sold on the EU market, including those from third countries and those sold online, are safe. According to MEPs, although the Toy Safety Directive (STD) guarantees a high level of protection for children, some of the third-country manufacturers that sell their products in the single market, in particular through online marketplaces, do not comply with EU legislation. As a result, many toys sold in the EU still present significant risks. According to the EU Safety Gate (the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products) toys were the most reported product category (27% of all reports) in 2020. The data released by the Commission on December 3, 2021 show that the majority of reports last year concerned motor vehicles or related products (27%) and toys (19%).
