The companies that use online platforms for their business will be able to count on a new protection system that will guarantee greater transparency and security in commercial operations and easier handling of complaints. The Member States, meeting in Coreper, approved the provisional agreement actually reached on 13 February 2019 with the European Parliament on a draft regulation that concerns the relations between online platforms and the companies that use them to carry out the respective commercial activities. The rules, established by a proposal for an E.U. Regulation, aim, in particular, to raise the level of protection for European companies operating in digital commerce. Online platforms governed by the Regulation include online markets, online software application stores and/or social media, as well as search engines, regardless of location, provided they serve users established in the E.U. Currently, over one million E.U. companies operate through online platforms to reach their customers and it is estimated that about 60% of private consumption and 30% of public consumption of goods and services linked to the overall digital economy are made through intermediaries online.
