On 3 September 2020, in the judgment in the case C-356/19, the E.U. Court of Justice ruled that in the event of cancellation or prolonged delay of a flight, the passenger can demand payment of the financial compensation provided for by Union law in the national currency of his/her place of residence. The refusal of such payment by the airline would be incompatible with the obligation of extensive interpretation of the rights of air traffic passengers, as well as with the principle of equal treatment of damaged passengers.
